In Flight

I am, first and foremost, an animal portrait artist. However, my reputation has been built primarily upon my paintings of working Gun Dogs. Nevertheless, when I became a  professional artist in 1977, my dream was to paint wildlife - my first love being British birds. Over the years the dogs took over and by the mid nineteen-nineties I had abandoned wildlife altogether as a subject for my work, but never lost my love of the British countryside and everything in it.

In June 2013, I arranged a meeting with Paul and Fiona Haddon in Torquay, Devon. I have known them for fifteen years during which time I have watched with great pleasure, but no surprise, their rise in the art business. From humble beginnings running a successful restaurant displaying and selling pictures, they progressed to their first small gallery in Torquay. They now own and run a stunning, multi award winning gallery by the harbour. In addition, they have a very successful publishing business.

To my great pleasure they wanted me to paint not dogs, but wildlife images for them, which they wished to publish. It was a golden opportunity to go back to my roots.

The original set of four images entitled ‘In Flight’ have now been joined by a set of ‘Wildlife Portraits’. I am delighted with how they have turned out and cannot speak highly enough of the quality of the printing that Paul has achieved.  I am greatly enjoying my continued relationship with Fiona and Paul.
